Rhone "The Boss" Mayers - Chief Joy Officer

If you’ve spent any time around Candlelighters, you’ve probably felt Rhona Myers’ warm, can-do energy. Originally from Philadelphia, Rhona traded cheesesteaks for desert sunsets back in the 1970s when she moved to Las Vegas, and she’s been part of the city’s story ever since.

Her career reads like a highlight reel of Vegas history: she started in advertising, marketing, and PR, helped open the MGM Grand (back when it was the biggest hotel in the world!), and created all the promotional material for its grand opening. She later worked with top advertising agencies before wrapping up her professional life in real estate. But it was retirement that opened the door to her true passion—giving back.

Rhona’s heart for service comes straight from her mom, who taught her the value of community and connection. When she walked into Candlelighters for the first time, she knew she’d found the perfect place to “fill her bucket.” Whether she’s supporting families, coordinating with staff, or swapping book recommendations, Rhona brings warmth, humor, and a lifetime of experience to the team.

When she’s not brightening lives at Candlelighters, Rhona is likely reading (about 60 books a year!) or baking up a storm. If you’re lucky, you might get a slice of her famous carrot cake. She is also a proud mother of a local middle school teacher and a grandmother to Kyle and Kaylee, who keep her just as busy as her energetic dog, Scooter.
