There are many different types of volunteer opportunities to suit different abilities and availabilities!

Regularly scheduled and Direct Service volunteer opportunities are geared towards Core Volunteers who commit to a certain amount of time and/or training.  

Core Volunteer Activities: 

  • Front Desk Support 
    • Answering phones, receiving guests, facilitating birthday club, light data entry and other projects.
  • Camp Firefly/Camp Firefly Junior 
    • Summer camp in Big Bear and Mt. Charleston for children diagnosed with cancer, siblings, and bereaved siblings.
    • Nurses and Oncology providers are always needed for our Med Shed!
  • Teen Scene
    • Monthly support group for diagnosed teens.
  • Teen Sibs  
    • Quarterly support group for siblings.
  • Creative Expressions 
    • Monthly quality-of-life program for children ages 6-12.
  • Angel Sibs Facilitators 
    • A structured grief support program for bereaved children ages 6-17.
    • There is mandatory training.
  • Candlelighters Connect Peer Mentor 
    • A peer-to-peer mentorship program for children ages 10-17. Not counseling.
    • We are looking for childhood cancer survivors, siblings, and bereaved siblings ages 20-29.

 

Guest Volunteer opportunities can be completed with no training and are focused on events or hybrid projects. These opportunities are also available to Core Volunteers.

  • Outreach Team 
    • Events in the community to spread the word about Candlelighters!
  • Fundraising Events 
    • Events in the community.
    • Candlelighters hosted or third party hosted.
  • Spring Fling 
    • Spring Carnival for Candlelighters families with children aged 3 to 11.
  • Camp Bus Boarding 
    • Ensuring campers get checked in and onto the busses!
  • Fireworks Booth 
    • Selling fireworks to our local community to support our Candlelighters families!
  • Day of Remembrance 
    • Memorial event for Angel Families.
  • Superhero 5k 
    • Our largest fundraiser of the year! We need over 200 volunteers.
  • Costume BOO-tique 
    • Halloween costume shop for Candlelighters families.
  • Halloween Bash 
    • Fall carnival for Candlelighters families.
  • Holiday Deliveries 
    • Single deliveries of various sizes of holiday presents! 
    • Occasionally will need multiple vehicles.
  • 12 Days of Cheer 
    • 12 days worth of small deliveries from December 13 to December 24 to one Candlelighters family.
