Camp Firefly is a week long summer camp for diagnosed children and siblings aged 9 to 17 to have the opportunity to experience summer fun and create lifelong memories in a medically supervised environment.
Camp Firefly Jr. is an overnight camp for diagnosed children and siblings aged 6-8 to get them ready to experience Camp Firefly in Big Bear.
Our camp volunteer program attracts a diverse group of individuals ranging in age and background. We are looking for high-energy, creative volunteers desiring to make a difference in the life of a child. We seek volunteers who are leaders, prepared to work hard, care for others, be responsible, build relationships with campers and other staff members, and have the best week of their lives!
Volunteer Requirements
- Volunteers are required to commit to an entire week of camp! (Full 24 hours for Jr.)
- Volunteers MUST be 20 years of age before they arrive at camp.
- Background check required for all volunteers.
Camp Volunteer Positions
Counselors: Assigned to a cabin with 2-3 co-counselors, you’ll work with the same cabin of campers all week long, occasionally doing broader activities with the village (the entire age group). Counselors sleep in the cabin with their kids.
Activities Crew: Each day is packed full of activities! Our Activities Crew sets up and leads the various activities that we prepare (Water Wars, Marshmallow Wars, Arts & Crafts, etc.). They also step in to chaperone campers to make sure counselors get breaks during the day.
Med Shed: To bring our population to camp, we need a strong team of medical professionals who can not only handle splinters and sprains but also dispense medications and keep a keen eye on the condition of our diagnosed kiddos and their siblings. Those going to Big Bear will need to already have OR be willing to obtain a California license to practice medicine. Candlelighters can pay for the cost of licensure.
Bus Chaperones: Volunteers will chaperone kiddos on the bus from Las Vegas to California and ride back to Vegas with the bus on Tuesday, the kids go up to camp AND the Saturday, the day they come back to Vegas. They will be picked up by the bus and be driven to California to chaperone kiddos on the way back home to Las Vegas.
Pre-Camp Support: If you are unable to commit to the entire week of camp, you can show your support at the office as we prep supplies!
