Sue Collins Waltermeyer

Sue joined Candlelighters in September 2006 after 16 years working at Sunrise Children’s Hospital as a Child Life Specialist. Sue started her career in Pediatric Oncology 20 years ago at City of Hope; she also worked at Huntington Memorial Hospital and St. Thomas Hospital, London, England before developing the Child Life Program at Sunrise.
Sue has a B.S. in Psychology from Santa Clara University and an M.A. in Child Development from California State University Los Angeles. Sue was involved in the development of the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation serving on its Board for many years where she assisted in developing both Camp Cartwheel, where she had been a volunteer Director for 10 years, and the Beads of Courage program. Sue has served as an advisor to the American Lung Association’s Camp Superkids, been a volunteer Counselor at Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times and has been involved with the local Ronald McDonald House and Make-A-Wish Foundation. “I’m excited to have the opportunity to continue working with the children and families I’m so fond of and looking forward to creating new services and programs for them”. Sue and her husband Bruce’s youngest daughter had a kidney tumor as a newborn and underwent surgery and chemotherapy.
